Department Overview:

The Global Middle Office team plays a critical role within Finance, encompassing Product Control, Valuations, Collateral Management, and Risk & Operations Middle Office functions. The Product Control team ensures the integrity of financial statements by preparing and verifying daily and monthly Profit and Loss (P&L) reports. They review trade booking and valuation flows, perform balance sheet reconciliation, and guarantee the accuracy of trading P&L positions and corporate data.

The team collaborates closely with various Corporate Functions and the business to establish a robust control framework, understanding business operations and associated risks. Product Control works closely with the Wholesale division, supporting business activities and trading performance. They also interact with Risk, Operations, IT, Legal, and Compliance, as well as other Finance functions.

Nomura operates an offshore P&L production model. This onshore role focuses on liaison with the business, working closely with the middle office trade validation team, and providing advisory work. The candidate will develop close relationships with the trading desk and gain a deep understanding of the business' trading strategies to evaluate desk performance and provide insight to senior management.

Role Description:

We seek an enthusiastic Product Controller to join the Delta One and Prime Business PC team. The ideal candidate should demonstrate a strong Control mindset and be responsible for overseeing daily P&L and balance sheet movements. Strong knowledge of Equities products and structures commonly seen in Asian markets is essential.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage the timely and accurate calculation, verification, and reporting of Daily and Month-end reporting in conjunction with an offshore team located in Powai, Mumbai.
  • Critically review trading activity to highlight significant items to senior management.
  • Collaborate with Trading, Banking, Risk, Operations, and other Corporate Functions to resolve booking, valuation, and financial resource enquiries and issues.
  • Understand and critically analyze transactions, performing Finance Due Diligence, assessing profitability in context of return on resources.
  • Identify and solve potential implications on Legal entity, Accounting, Treasury, and Tax matters.
  • Participate in new business and product launches, engaging in global finance projects.

Requirements:

  • Minimum Degree from an accredited University or Professional Qualification (e.g., Chartered Accountant or Chartered Financial Analyst).
  • At least 4 years' experience in Product Control or Valuations or Big 4 with a strong technical knowledge of financial products.
  • Understanding of USGAAP and IFRS accounting standards.
  • Proven self-starter showing initiative to address issues and confidence in analyzing and presenting complex financial data.
  • Excellent communication skills for effective interaction with senior stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated outstanding leadership skill managing junior team members, ability to manage multiple stakeholders, and display leadership qualities to achieve desired results.
