Library Research Support Specialist

The selected candidate will be an integral part of the Research Support and Scholarly Communication Section within the Library, collaborating with fellow librarians to design, implement, and enhance services that assist researchers in navigating the evolving landscape of funding, publishing, and scholarly communication. Key responsibilities include:
- Facilitating open access (OA) service delivery, which encompasses managing platforms and workflows for OA publishing agreements, promoting and overseeing OA self-archiving, conducting workshops on OA, and maintaining user guides while compiling various OA statistics for reporting and service evaluation;
- Engaging in the planning and execution of research data management services, which involve user education and support in crafting data management plans using specific tools, developing policies for the institutional data repository, and assisting researchers in utilizing the repository for dataset curation and archiving to fulfill journal or funder requirements;
- Contributing to research impact assessment services by utilizing various research analysis and benchmarking tools to identify appropriate bibliometrics and alternative indicators that illustrate the academic, social, and political impact of research across disciplines;
- Assisting in the management of metadata within the University's integrated research information management system, focusing on authority control and data accuracy to support the generation of relational reports with validated records for trend and pattern analysis;
- Participating in the portal migration initiative for the University's integrated research information management system, which includes user interface design, assessment of new features, and user education and support;
- Staying informed about trends and advancements in the funding, publishing, and scholarly communication sectors while continuously enhancing skills for new service offerings;
- Supporting any additional cross-sectional services as needed; and
- Performing other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- A postgraduate degree in Library and Information Science or a related field, with a minimum of 5 years of post-qualification experience, or a Bachelor's degree in a related discipline with at least 10 years of post-qualification experience;
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills in English and Chinese (including fluency in Putonghua), along with strong customer service abilities;
- Proven professionalism characterized by motivation, innovation, adaptability, commitment, attention to detail, and the ability to multitask;
- Capability to work independently as well as collaboratively with colleagues;
- A high level of comfort and proficiency in handling data and utilizing various application systems is advantageous, although on-the-job training for library-specific tools and platforms will be provided;
- Prior experience in the higher education sector, an academic library, or the publishing industry is preferred;
- Familiarity with the research cycle and current trends in open access, research data management, publishing, and scholarly communication is beneficial.
Shortlisted candidates will be invited for a written assessment.
Compensation and Benefits
The remuneration package will be competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience. The appointment will be on a fixed-term contract, with fringe benefits including gratuity, leave, and medical and dental schemes.
