Position Overview

The primary responsibility of the Electrical Specialist Engineer is to guarantee the stable and safe operation and maintenance of power systems within the Waste to Energy sector, collaborating closely with local teams. Key responsibilities include:

● Offering technical guidance to management and operational teams.
● Coordinating with vendors and maintenance teams for effective power system upkeep.
● Planning maintenance shutdowns for high voltage systems, including isolation strategies.
● Overseeing high voltage maintenance activities.
● Revising existing maintenance protocols and drafting new procedures as necessary.

The power generation fleet consists of:

● Two GE 11kV steam turbo-generators
● One 11kV emergency diesel generator
● One Triveni steam turbo-generator
● Three MWM CHP generators.

This position necessitates a thorough understanding of intricate control and protection systems, which must be managed by a qualified and experienced professional.

The engineer will play a crucial role in maintaining power system assets, including switchgear, transformers, generators, UPS, and station battery chargers.

This role is ideal for an experienced engineer with substantial expertise in power systems or a protection engineer with a minimum of 5 years (preferably 10) experience in high voltage systems, particularly in high voltage power generation.

Required Qualifications

Essential Skills and Experience:

Proven experience in high voltage system maintenance, equipment operation, and troubleshooting, including a strong understanding of circuit breakers, transformers, generators, and switchgear.

Demonstrated ability to develop switching programs for high voltage operators and to review and approve isolation plans for maintenance tasks.

Hands-on experience with high voltage switching, including wearing appropriate safety gear and executing isolation, issuing permits, and re-energizing systems post-maintenance.

The candidate must be adept at analyzing single line diagrams and electrical schematics during troubleshooting and maintenance activities.

● Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with fluency in English to comprehend existing design documentation.
● A strong commitment to safety.
● Comprehensive understanding of power station operations.
● Practical experience providing technical support for power system faults and incidents.
● Leadership capabilities are essential; the candidate must be able to guide and mentor a team of technicians and engineers.
● Ability to maintain composure and lead effectively under pressure following equipment trips.
● Experience in providing after-hours technical support for power system fault investigations and restorations.

The ideal candidate will be comfortable with hands-on work and should possess an electrical engineering degree along with completion of an apprenticeship.
