Job Summary

The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is seeking a highly skilled and experienced individual to fill the position of Assistant Manager (Engineering). The appointee will assist the Engineer and researchers in designing, implementing, and managing engineering systems for R&D, as well as providing support in project bidding, collaboration, promotion, technology transfer, and implementation of R&D results.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design and validate processes, equipment, and systems for water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Select materials for water and wastewater treatment projects.
  • Manage projects, including design and cost review, equipment and materials procurement, installation work, testing, and commissioning for water and wastewater projects.
  • Conduct testing and commissioning, and provide training to the operation and maintenance team for water and wastewater projects.
  • Prepare bid proposals for projects and negotiate contracts with clients and vendors.
  • Prepare tender specifications and arrange project tendering.
  • Liaise with manufacturers and suppliers to introduce technologies and implement R&D results to clients.

Requirements

The appointee should have a master's degree or above in environmental, chemical, civil, or mechanical engineering, with at least 6 years of relevant experience in water and wastewater engineering. The appointee should also complete the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Formal Training Schemes (Scheme "A" Graduate Training). The ideal candidate should be proactive, innovative, responsible, detail-minded, well-organized, and a good team player with a good command of written and spoken English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua), as well as good planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills. Experience in R&D for universities will be an advantage.

Benefits

The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Fringe benefits, including annual leave, medical and dental benefits, will be provided. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of the contract.
