Job Summary
We are seeking a highly experienced and skilled Commercial and Compliance Lawyer to join our team at Sotheby's in Hong Kong. As an Associate General Counsel, you will play a key role in supporting our global legal department and business teams across Asia.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide commercial and compliance advice to our business teams, including drafting and negotiating contracts, preparing templates, and advising on new initiatives.
- Develop and maintain global compliance policies and procedures in conjunction with our global Compliance Department.
- Handle a workload across Asia, supporting our business activities in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan, Japan, South Korea, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mainland China.
- Assist other Asia business teams with non-standard legal and related commercial matters.
- Support the global Litigation team as required.
- Supervise outside law firms and manage external legal budgets.
Requirements
- 10+ years of post-qualification experience in commercial law and compliance work in Hong Kong.
- Prior exposure to PRC-related deals, contracts, and commercial documentation.
- Experience in dealing with/qualifications in additional legal jurisdictions (such as UK and/or New York).
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to develop working relationships on a global scale.
- Ability to deal directly with internal and external clients in a purposeful and constructive manner.
- 'Can do' attitude to deal with tasks both complex and small.
- Ability to manage projects independently.
- Good planning, organizational, and time management skills.
- Native fluency in English with Chinese (Cantonese and Mandarin) language skills, including ability to read and write traditional and simplified Chinese.
