Job Opportunity

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is seeking a seasoned professional to lead the quality assurance efforts within the University's capital works projects. This key role will be instrumental in upholding quality standards and ensuring the successful execution of construction projects on the university campus.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage resident site staff, conducting on-site inspections to ensure construction meets quality and specifications.
  • Establish quality requirements through mock-ups and quality control installations at the project's initial stage.
  • Monitor and report on construction project progress, highlighting deviations from approved drawings.
  • Review and comment on contractor's work schedules, materials, and method statements to ensure compliance with project requirements.
  • Coordinate with project managers and contractors to resolve construction-related issues promptly.
  • Maintain detailed records of construction activities, including daily reports and progress photos.
  • Assist in conducting pre-inspections and snagging exercises to identify and rectify defects before project handover.
  • Provide regular updates to the project team on construction progress, challenges, and potential risks.
  • Contribute to campus improvement and best practices, working collaboratively with the team to ensure project execution aligns with the University's strategic goals and objectives.

Requirements

Applicants should possess a degree in construction-related fields with a minimum of 10 years of post-qualification experience in Architecture/Engineering/Construction and Project Management. They should be a member of a recognized professional organization, such as the Hong Kong Institute of Architects, Hong Kong Institution of Engineers, and Hong Kong Institute of Surveyors. The ideal candidate should be open to innovative ideas, possess excellent leadership and communication skills, and have a good command of both written and spoken English. Knowledge of Chinese is preferred. Experience in liaising with relevant government agencies and statutory bodies, as well as a proven track record of delivering sustainable design in capital projects utilizing creative solutions, are desirable.
