Research Associate in Marine Computer Vision

The Vision, Graphics and Computational Design (VGD) Group at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is seeking talented Post-doctoral Fellows and Research Assistants with a passion for the ocean and a keen interest in advancing innovative computer vision methodologies for marine research challenges.
Under the leadership of Prof. Sai-Kit Yeung, the VGD Group engages in pioneering research encompassing 3D content reconstruction, understanding, modeling, and redesign. The team also explores artificial intelligence applications for design, content generation, human-robot interaction, and the development of novel algorithms to improve virtual and augmented reality experiences.
Collaboration is key, as the Group partners with marine biologists, field ecologists, and coral conservationists to create cutting-edge computer vision and graphics solutions, addressing a variety of marine-related issues.
We have several openings for Post-doctoral Fellow and Research Assistant roles available immediately.
Key Research Areas:
- Multi-sensor simultaneous localization and mapping
- 3D reconstruction and scene understanding
- Image enhancement and scene generation
- System design to support these research initiatives
To qualify for the Post-doctoral Fellow position, candidates must possess a PhD in computer science, mathematics, electrical and electronic engineering, or a related field. Applicants with a bachelor's or master's degree in these disciplines may be considered for the Research Assistant role.
Duration of the positions is typically between 1 to 2 years.
Compensation:
Starting salary will be based on qualifications and experience, with additional benefits including annual leave, medical and dental coverage. A gratuity will be awarded upon successful completion of a 2-year contract.
