We are seeking a Director of R&D to lead our research strategy, build and scale technical teams, and drive next‑generation product development across the company. The Director of R&D will own the full research and innovation pipeline—from concept to prototype to handoff for production. You will guide multidisciplinary teams, partner closely with leadership, and ensure that Hailstone Labs consistently delivers breakthrough technologies with strategic business value. This is a high‑visibility, high‑impact leadership role for someone who can think scientifically, build operational processes, and innovate rapidly. Key Responsibilities Define and own the long‑term R&D roadmap aligned with company goals and market opportunities. Evaluate emerging technologies, scientific trends, and competitive landscape to shape research priorities. Partner with executive leadership on strategy, resource planning, and go‑to‑market alignment. Lead the development of new technologies, methodologies, prototypes, and experimental frameworks. Translate scientific insights into viable product directions and technical requirements. Ensure rigorous documentation, validation, and experimentation practices. Work closely with Engineering, Product, Operations, and Business teams to ensure smooth transition from R&D to production. Drive alignment between research initiatives and customer or market needs. Qualifications 8–15+ years in R&D roles, with at least 5 years in senior leadership. Proven track record leading complex research programs from ideation through delivery. Deep expertise in one or more relevant technical areas (e.g. advanced materials, AI/ML, robotics, biotechnology, systems engineering—customize as needed). Strong ability to manage multidisciplinary technical teams and mentor senior scientists/engineers. Demonstrated success building R&D organizations, processes, and culture. Excellent communication skills with ability to present complex concepts clearly to both technical and non‑technical audiences. Experience in fast‑paced startup environments. Prior ownership of a full R&D portfolio. Demonstrated contributions to patents, publications, or novel technologies. Advanced degree (MS/PhD) in a relevant scientific or engineering discipline.
