In striving to be the best trade promotion organisation in the world, the HKTDC is committed to: Creating and delivering value to its customers Building on Hong Kong’s economic success through global business Maintaining trust, respect and openness in all its relationships Position Background Reporting to the Directorate, the major responsibilities of the Director of Research include: Leading and managing the Research Department to be i) a strategic think tank of the Council and its senior management, ii) a propagator of the Council’s mission and vision, and iii) a centre of strategic business development and market intelligence for the Hong Kong business community, especially the SMEs; Providing thought-leadership, insights and control to direct and upgrade the quality of production and delivery of HKTDC research services; Representing the Department in external and internal functions. Coordinate and collaborate with internal and external parties on sponsorships and projects to enhance operation, impact and image of HKTDC Research; Establishing HKTDC Research as the authority in business research on Asia, especially Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland and ASEAN; Monitoring developments in Hong Kong and the global markets that would impact Hong Kong’s trade in products and services; Maintaining close working relationship with relevant government departments and other research institutes; Developing strategies for research themes, priority projects, and advising the team on research methodologies; Ensuring the timeliness, quality and relevance of research output and overseeing the implementation of research plans, ad hoc projects and regular assignments; Employing Artificial Intelligence where appropriate to elevate Research's capability and efficiency. The Candidate The ideal candidate should have the following attributes: Functional Expertise Excellent knowledge of international politics and economics, the Chinese economy and the Hong Kong economy, including industry sectors; Good knowledge of issues relating to international trade, multilateral and bilateral trade relations, laws and regulations relating to international trade; Understanding the use of digitalized platform and social media in the dissemination of research findings, and adopting suitable business models for individual research reports and joint surveys. Professional Experience More than 15 years of relevant experience in reputable institutions, in which no less than 8 years in a senior position of heading a sizable research team; Ability in providing intellectual leadership in undertaking macro-economics studies, industry / consumer surveys and business opportunities in emerging markets; Well respected in the peer group of professional economists and the business community of Hong Kong. Qualifications And Personal Attributes A postgraduate degree in Economics or equivalent; Good judgement and common sense; an open, accessible personal style with high level of energy and creativity; willing to travel; Good presentation skill and proficiency in English, Cantonese and Putonghua. Remuneration And Benefits The successful candidate will be offered a two-year contract with prospects for renewal upon expiry. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience, plus an appropriate contract-end gratuity. Medical benefits and annual leave will be offered.
