Join to apply for the Corporate Counsel role at Christie’s Purpose of the Position Provide legal advice for the Christie’s Art Finance (CAF) business on all areas of international art and luxury asset-based lending, mainly focusing on borrowers in APAC. Collaborate with the APAC legal team on all art law related commercial matters, disputes, and corporate matters. Deliver timely, user-friendly legal/compliance training, “clinics,” and proactive advice to help the business achieve its goals in line with Christie’s global standards. Principal Responsibilities CAF Specific Advise CAF business on international art and luxury asset-based lending, especially client due diligence for APAC borrowers. Draft, review, negotiate loan agreements, security documents, and ancillary documents; assist in closing arts/ luxury asset loans. Assist with ongoing management of CAF’s loan portfolio: amendments, extensions, refinancings, paydowns, releases, upsizes, collateral swaps, museum loans, collateral touring, bailment/storage arrangements. Support CAF’s expansion into new APAC jurisdictions: lending, marketing, and related laws/regulations. Monitor national/international laws/regulations impacting lending businesses, including licensing/registration requirements. Manage external counsel spend for lending/regulatory matters. Develop, maintain, refine and update templates, policies and processes for underwriting and servicing art and luxury asset-based loans. Draft, review, negotiate other related documentation, including NDAs and referral/partnership agreements. Commercial & Corporate Specific Review and draft commercial agreements. Advise on legal matters related to property sale, auction conduct, post-sale issues, and disputes. Handle and manage legal disputes; supervise external legal lawyers and manage external legal fees. Maintain best practices; contribute to the development of group-wide legal services and risk management. Support key measurement criteria across legal services/risk management in Asia. Work closely with Christie’s legal services and risk management team to deliver seamless legal and risk management service to Christie’s Group in APAC. Assist with company-wide cross-department projects and initiatives. General Develop strong financial management ethos; work to agreed budgets and manage external counsel costs. Build relationships and liaise with teams across Christie’s (art departments, Finance, Treasury, Tax, Insurance). Educate and train business colleagues on various legal matters. Manage external lawyers on legal projects while controlling costs. Excellent legal and analytical skills – drafting, negotiation, presentation, and finance, commercial, and corporate law principles. Strong attention to detail. Excellent IT and web-based skills. Strong and effective time and priority management skills. Multi-tasking. Work with multiple clients, advisors, stakeholders across many time zones globally. Required Qualifications/Experience Qualified solicitor in Hong Kong with 4–6 years PQE. Experience in an international law firm or as in‑house counsel for an international organisation; transactional banking and finance lawyer with secured corporate and/or consumer lending transactions; cross-border lending transactions and familiarity with LMA/APLMA‑style loan documents preferred. Beneficial but Not Essential Financial regulatory experience. Aware of securitisation/structured finance transactions.
