Building Services Engineer – Mechanical

(Technical Strategist, Client Partner & Project Integrator) Hong Kong (with GBA Coverage) About the Role This is a strategic, client-facing Building Services (Mechanical) engineering role within M Moser’s integrated AEC practice. Rather than focusing on detailed design or code-driven documentation, you will guide early-stage engineering strategy , engage with clients, support business development, and integrate global expertise into Hong Kong and GBA projects. Your role is to create human-centric, sustainable, high-performance engineering strategies —leveraging building physics, smart building systems, global MEP teams, and AI-enabled workflows. Detailed technical design, calculations, and construction drawings are typically carried out by specialist contractors; your focus is on ensuring clarity of intent, quality of direction, and client value . Key Responsibilities 1. Mechanical Engineering Leadership & Technical Strategy Define the mechanical engineering strategy across HK/GBA projects, focusing on concept-level decisions that shape comfort, sustainability, airflow, acoustics, and wellbeing. Translate client goals into actionable engineering directions that support: exceptional occupant comfort and wellness energy and carbon performance operational efficiency and adaptability digital and smart building integration Work with global building physics, sustainability, and mechanical engineering experts to bring industry-leading thinking into local projects. Ensure engineering strategies elevate and reinforce human-centric workplace design rather than simply responding to mechanical demand. 2. AI-Enabled Engineering Practice (Essential Requirement) AI is fundamental to how this role will operate. The candidate must already use AI tools in their engineering workflow—for example: AI-assisted environmental or mechanical analysis AI tools for exploring design options or evaluating system strategies AI-assisted technical writing, modelling, or report generation Automation, scripting, prompt engineering, or simulation augmentation Responsibilities include: Applying AI to accelerate mechanical strategy development, analysis, documentation, and communication. Supporting project teams in adopting AI-enabled workflows to improve efficiency and insight. Collaborating with global AI and digital specialists to refine and expand our engineering delivery methods. Acting as a champion for emerging technologies and AI-driven approaches across the region. AI is not a nice-to-have; it is central to the delivery of this role . 3. Client Engagement, Business Development & Prelease Support Represent mechanical engineering in client discussions, translating complex ideas into clear, value-driven guidance. Help win work by contributing to: prelease technical due diligence early engineering narratives proposal development and fee strategies Develop strong relationships with landlords, corporate clients, and developers to uncover opportunities. Provide market insight to help refine our regional go-to-market strategy for engineering services. Support clients in understanding how mechanical strategy can elevate workplace quality, experience, and sustainability outcomes. 4. Cross-Functional Collaboration & Project Integration Serve as the mechanical link between internal teams—design, project management, sustainability, strategy—and external partners. Guide design teams and contractors by clarifying intent and ensuring mechanical direction is understood and executed appropriately. Integrate mechanical strategy with: electrical and ELV systems lighting and acoustics smart building platforms building management systems (BMS) Identify risks, constraints, and opportunities early and provide clear, commercially aligned recommendations. 5. Quality, Performance & Technical Excellence (Without Heavy Compliance Work) Review contractor or consultant mechanical strategies to confirm alignment with M Moser’s design and client goals. Promote innovation in sustainability, digital building technologies, and occupant-centric solutions. Ensure that mechanical strategies deliver long-term value in comfort, performance, energy use, and maintainability. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering , Building Services Engineering, or related field. 5–8 years of experience in mechanical / building services engineering. Strong understanding of HK building services practices (but not responsible for detailed compliance work). Hands‑on experience using AI tools is mandatory. Excellent communication skills; confident speaking to clients and multidisciplinary teams. Proven ability to translate mechanical strategy into language that non-engineers can understand. Interest in smart buildings, building physics, digital systems, and sustainability. Commercially aware, proactive, and solution-focused. Success Measures Mechanical strategies that enhance occupant experience, wellbeing, sustainability, and business value. Work won through strong client engagement, BD support, and prelease due diligence. Demonstrated use of AI to improve efficiency, insight, and project delivery. Strong collaboration across HK/GBA teams and with global engineering groups. Positive client and internal feedback on clarity, leadership, and strategic integration.
