Position: Asia Companies and Markets News Editor Location: Hong Kong, China Role Overview The Financial Times is seeking a news editor with financial savvy to join our Asia team in Hong Kong. The role involves commissioning and editing high‑profile stories destined for the home page and front page, managing coverage across corporate, financial, technology and markets, and acting as an editorial focal point for regional reporters. The editor will channel their energy into the most important subjects, edit copy into compelling prose, and commission in‑depth analysis that meets FT readers’ expectations. Responsibilities Commission and edit a range of speculative and hard‑news stories about major Asian technology giants, financial behemoths and global capital flows. Manage corporate, technology, financial, and market coverage for the Asia desk, ensuring stories are of publication quality for the FT’s core readership in the UK and Europe. Work closely with correspondent networks across the Asian region, supporting reporters who write in a second language to produce stories that resonate with international audiences. Apply strong news judgement to make quick, decisive edits on breaking news, while also shaping longer pieces with clarity and precision. Create engaging headlines and maintain reader interest across all formats, including digital storytelling. Assist with the editing of other topics and maintain a collaborative, tight‑knit team environment. Qualifications and Skills Excellent commissioning skills and confidence to guide story development, supported by a genuine interest in business topics and some knowledge of Asia. Strong copy‑editing abilities and the capability to make swift editorial decisions on breaking news stories. Experience working with digital platforms and an aptitude for crafting stories that perform well online. Versatile, collaborative, and willing to help with editing duties beyond the core subject area when required. Ability to work effectively with correspondents in a regional network, providing clear editorial guidance.
