Senior Engineering Design Manager – JLL The Mechanical Engineering Design Manager is responsible for leading the Mechanical design function across assigned projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with codes and standards, and alignment with client and business objectives. This role oversees consultants and contractors, manages design deliverables from concept through construction, and collaborates closely with cross‑functional teams including architecture, mechanical, sustainability, and project management. Key Responsibilities Liaise with client groups to ascertain project requirements and formulate proposals for delivery of the same. Advise on the proper implementation of client’s design process through feasibility, scheme design, detailed design, construction and handover phases of designated projects. Review and approve design calculations, drawings, specifications, and BIM models for technical accuracy and completeness. Assist in planning appropriate levels of design management resources. Advise on the project brief and manage the approval process with the Project Manager. Notify and liaise with senior leadership regarding any escalated project issues. Notify the project team where design issues may impact overall cost management of a project. Ensure appropriate documentation and sign‑offs occur at strategic times during the project to deliver full auditing capability. Provide consultative support to other business groups within client’s organization on engineering requirements. Drive continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and engineering standards, including adoption of digital engineering and automation technologies. Review and technically analyse relevant new product innovations. Regular liaison with the global engineering team to advise on global initiatives, benchmarking projects and design processes. Qualifications Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent. Minimum 8 years of experience in Mechanical engineering design for building systems; at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role. Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and large‑scale commercial or institutional projects. In‑depth knowledge of Mechanical distribution systems, lighting design, codes and standards, and construction documentation. Proficiency with design and analysis software and BIM workflows. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. Experience with sustainable design, LEED, Fitwel, or similar certification processes is a plus. Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites or client offices as needed.
