With strong links to Malvern College, a leading independent school in Worcestershire, England, the school group seeks to appoint an inspirational University Guidance Counsellor. The University Guidance Counsellor will be a key member of our pastoral and academic team, responsible for providing expert guidance to students in Years 10‑13 (ages 14‑18) as they navigate the university application process. This role focuses on maximizing pupils' potential to achieve outstanding IB results and secure offers from elite universities, including Oxbridge, Russell Group institutions in the UK, Ivy League and top‑tier US universities such as Stanford. The ideal candidate will have a passion for pupil success, deep knowledge of global admissions landscapes, and the ability to inspire and support a diverse student body in an international setting. This is a full‑time position based in Hong Kong, with opportunities for professional development and collaboration with international networks. Key Responsibilities Student Advising and Guidance: Provide one‑on‑one counselling to students on university selection, course choices within the IB Diploma Programme, and strategies to build competitive profiles, including extracurricular activities, internships, and leadership opportunities. Application Support: Assist students in preparing high‑quality applications, including personal statements, essays, resumes/CVs, and supplemental materials for UK (UCAS), US (Common App), and other international systems. Guide on standardized testing (e.g., SAT, ACT, admissions tests for UK universities, IELTS) and interview preparation. University Outreach and Events: Organise and facilitate university visits, fairs, webinars, and workshops with representatives from top UK, US, and Ivy League universities. Foster relationships with admissions officers to advocate for our students. Tracking and Compliance: Monitor application deadlines, track student progress, and ensure compliance with admission requirements. Maintain accurate records of student applications, offers, and outcomes to inform school‑wide improvements. Collaboration: Work closely with IB coordinator, teachers, parents, and external partners to align academic planning with university goals. Provide training for staff on admissions trends plus the writing of recommendation letters and support parent information sessions. Data Analysis and Reporting: Analyse admissions data and trends to refine counselling strategies, with a focus on increasing acceptance rates to target universities. Career Development: Offer broader career advice, including gap year options, alternative pathways, and post‑university planning, tailored to individual student aspirations. Key Requirements Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Counselling, Psychology, or a related field. Minimum of 3‑5 years of experience in university/college counselling, ideally in an international school setting with IB Diploma pupils. Proven track record of successfully guiding pupils to top UK universities (e.g., Oxford, Cambridge, Imperial College London), Ivy League universities, and other elite institutions. In‑depth knowledge of global university admissions processes, including UK, US, and international systems, with familiarity in handling diverse cultural backgrounds. Experience living or working in Asia, particularly Hong Kong, is advantageous. Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport with students, parents, and colleagues from multicultural backgrounds. Strong organisational skills, attention to detail, and proficiency in using counselling software (e.g. Unifrog) and Microsoft Office/Google Workspace. Fluency in English; proficiency in Cantonese and/or Mandarin is highly desirable to support our local and international community. Empathetic, proactive, and resilient, with a pupil‑centred approach and commitment to equity in education.
