Standard Chartered | Head of Philanthropy, Asia, Wealth Planning

Be part of the Global Wealth Planning and Family Advisory (WP & FA) team based in Hong Kong and the wealth advisory business for Standard Chartered Global Private Banking (‘PvB”). The individual should be working with relationship managers, team heads, market heads and regional heads to develop client relationships and conversations using the different topics and subject matters under philanthropy and impact investing. The individual should also engage with internal stakeholders and platforms particularly the Group’s Community Impact team that leads the Group’s strategic approach & governance of corporate philanthropy, including Futuremakers by Standard Chartered, the Group’s global community initiative to support youth economic inclusion and the Standard Chartered Foundation, and our expertise in sustainability and impact investing to design and offer a platform of solutions in this area for clients of the PvB.
The individual should support the Global Head of Wealth Planning and Family Advisory in designing and driving client philanthropy and impact investing strategy implementation, business growth, value proposition offerings, people agenda and key internal and external partnerships to support the PvB business in Hong Kong and Singapore. The individual should also provide technical support to PvB RMs based in Hong Kong and Singapore on philanthropy and impact investing.
Responsibilities
- Philanthropy advisory: design our value proposition for UHNW clients and develop a playbook to help our clients and their family offices start and/or advance their philanthropy journey.
- Philanthropy solutions: design a range of philanthropy solutions that we can offer to PvB clients, including partnering external philanthropy organisations (e.g., PAA, CFS, ACF, AVPN) and collaborating with the Community Impact Team to develop routes and materials to introduce Standard Chartered’s philanthropy programme (Futuremakers).
- Market insights: provide thought leadership on philanthropy trends, impact creation and measurement, and how philanthropy objectives can be incorporated into wealth planning and family governance.
Business
- Implement and execute philanthropy advisory playbook, supporting RMs to engage our clients and their family offices start and/or advance their philanthropy journey.
- Implement and execute philanthropy solutions, collaborating with philanthropic partners and working with internal functions (e.g., onboarding, account opening, operations) to create an end-to-end philanthropy solution that maximises AUM with SC PvB.
- Build strong collaboration with frontline and provide technical support to RMs in relation to philanthropy set-up and referral of clients to philanthropy platforms or charitable organisations.
- Coordinate across different units in SC e.g., Group Community Impact, SC Foundation, sustainable finance, wealth solutions, lifting participation, to avail different solutions (e.g., impact investing, impact bonds) for PvB clients.
Processes
- Support the continuous improvement of processes to increase operational efficiency and effectiveness.
- Support the effective management of operational risks across the Business and in compliance with applicable internal policies, and external laws and regulations at a global level.
- Support the delivery of business strategy in a safe and well-controlled manner and on an end-to-end basis.
People & Talent
- Act as subject-matter expert on philanthropy and impact investing within Wealth Planning & Family Advisory and PvB.
- Train and support the RMs so that they better understand the philanthropy landscape and how to engage clients on philanthropy opportunities.
- Monitor and keep up to date with changes in relevant laws and regulations that affect philanthropy and report impact on changes to regional markets.
- Comply with the highest standards of regulatory and business conduct and practices as defined by internal and external requirements.
- Understand and ensure compliance with all applicable laws, regulations and guidelines including those governing securities activities, company law, anti-money laundering, terrorist financing and sanctions; the Group’s policies and procedures; and the Group Code of Conduct.
- Ensure that Risk Management matters that are brought to attention are subject to direct remedial action and/or ensure adequate reporting to the relevant Risk Committees and/or line management.
- Handle client issues, complaints, and enquiries on a timely basis in accordance with established procedures.
Governance
- Responsible for assessing the effectiveness of the Group’s arrangements to deliver effective governance, oversight and controls and highlighting gaps as appropriate.
- Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates, and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.
- Fulfil supervisory responsibilities in line with supervisory principles.
- Ensure adherence with the highest standards of ethics and compliance with relevant policies, processes, and regulations forms part of the culture.
- Participate in Local Client Committee and other relevant committees where applicable.
- Engage with all audit report findings and ensure feedback is acted upon.

Our Ideal Candidate
- Demonstrable and relevant experience in engaging and supporting UHNW clients on philanthropy matters.
- Languages – fluency in business English is a must; ability to engage clients in Asia in other languages will be an advantage.
- Outstanding communication and presentation skills; ability to engage UHNW principals, SC senior management and media.
