Delivering high-quality research and analysis to investors around the world, the Global Research team covers economics, currencies, equities, fixed income and climate change to help our clients best navigate and make sense of turbulent global financial markets. Global Research offers fundamental, cross-asset, technical and quantitative analysis presented through multiple platforms and formats.

We are currently seeking a high calibre professional to join our team as an Associate Director - Data Science .

Principal Responsibilities

Role Purpose

As a member of the Global Research team, this role is part of our growth plan to extend our thought leadership across Data Science and analytics to help all parts of the bank. The incumbent will build predictive machine learning models and apply modern Natural Language Processing techniques to financial markets. This role involves working with all asset classes to create a commercial product and present and discuss research with a global client base of sophisticated investors including other departments within the bank.

Principal Accountabilities Impact on the Business
  • Developing predictive models across all asset classes
  • Applying modern Natural Language Processing techniques to financial market texts
  • Incorporating data-driven investment insights into research publications
  • Discussing research with clients of HSBC Global Research
  • All interactions must be correctly logged in the CRM system
Customers / Stakeholders
  • To actively engage with clients through meetings/calls
  • To work closely with Research Marketing, sales, sales trading, trading (market makers), to ensure dissemination of information and coordinated flow of information to clients
  • Proactively improve service to clients with regular calls, meetings and service requests
  • Proactively contribute to vote collection to get your team and the HSBC research department ranked in targeted external surveys
Leadership & Teamwork
  • To work effectively with the Global Research teams across asset classes
  • Develop our inclusive culture and practices in order to mitigate the effects of unconscious bias in our decision making
Operational Effectiveness & Control
  • To understand, and ensure compliance with, all relevant internal and external rules, regulations, and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved. Particularly in line with the DIM and Employment handbook
Compliance
  • Adherence to Global Research's policies and procedures as laid out in the Desk Instruction Manual (DIM), Functional Instruction Manual (FIM) and any other relevant group policies and procedures
  • Any FIM dispensations must be formally reviewed and agreed by the jobholder
  • Ensure a strong awareness of risk and reputational risk, both internally and when dealing with clients
Observation of Internal Controls
  • Maintains HSBC internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators
  • Follows and demonstrates compliance with all relevant internal and external rules, regulations and procedures that apply to the conduct of the business in which the jobholder is involved, specifically Internal Controls and any Compliance policy including, inter alia, the Group Compliance policy
  • Ensure 100% completion of mandatory and required training on time
