Merchandiser – Sourcing (John Lewis Partnership) As a Merchandiser in Sourcing you are an active and effective team player, maximising commercial opportunities by working in close collaboration with line managers, cross‑functional teams worldwide and suppliers. You will build long‑term relationships with the supply base to develop innovative products that meet the brand’s quality and value requirements. You will be the one‑point contact for day‑to‑day product development & costing activities for the categories you handle, ensuring the right product delivers first time with the right suppliers and feeding into the seasonal critical path. Main Role Responsibilities Build long‑term relationships with the supply base to develop innovative products that meet quality and value requirements. Adhere to critical path activities and ensure margin improvement. Provide input into supplier score‑carding and rationalisation. Smooth transition and handover to the production team. Feed into 3‑year sourcing plans for the respective category. Maximise commercial opportunities by working closely with UK teams, senior merchandisers and local suppliers to drive sales and profit through improved price and margins. Understand and support John Lewis ethical, sustainability and compliance initiatives for the category, working alongside Technical and Compliance teams. Execute the defined sourcing strategy and manage a competitive vendor matrix to fulfill the business opportunity plan. Essential Skills and Experience Experience in home furnishings/textile sourcing, e.g., filled bedding and curtains at a mid‑level; less experience will also be considered. Knowledge of the manufacturing process and costing module of relevant categories. Knowledge of the supply base for the region and category. Fluency in English, Mandarin and Cantonese. End‑to‑end product management experience. Previous work for a retailer in a sourcing office, preferably in the European/UK market. Degree in a relevant field (e.g., Merchandising or Design). Understanding of technical aspects of manufacturing. We support agile working practices across the John Lewis Partnership.
