Part-time Research Assistant (Semiconductor) ACCESS is a multi-disciplinary center for advancing IC design and design automation technologies to enable novel data-centric computing paradigms supporting a wide range of AI applications. The research agenda in ACCESS is organized into four research programs, addressing four key technical areas, including 1) Computing-in-Memory Architecture for Large-scale AI Models, 2) Hardware-Software Co-Design for Energy-Efficient and High-Performance Edge AI, 3) EDA (Electronic Design Automation) for Large-Scale AI Hardware, and 4) Cross-layer Optimization and Demonstration for Targeted Applications. Responsibilities ACCESS is seeking high‑calibre candidates for multiple part-time positions of Part‑time Research Assistant (Semiconductor). The appointee will be assigned with duties in support of our research and development works such as literature reviews, project administrative works, preparing data and graphics for project reports, R&D works, business and marketing activities, etc. under the coaching of senior researcher(s) or senior engineer(s). He/she is required to station and work at the Hong Kong Science Park, with occasional business travels to HKUST Clear Water Bay Campus and other Partner Universities of the Center when needed. Requirements Applicants should be full‑time PhD students of Hong Kong local universities, preferably majoring in electronics, electrical or computer engineering, computer science, or equivalent. He/she must be legally permitted to work in Hong Kong. Specifically, hand‑on R&D experiences in at least ONE of the following area(s) are preferred (but not limited to): IC/IP design with strong skills in physical implementation and experiences of using Cadence/Synopsys/Mentor EDA tools especially Innovus, Virtuoso and Calibre; AI foundation model design with strong programming skills in Python/C++/Matlab and experiences of machine learning frameworks such as Caffe, Tensorflow, PyTorch and knowledge in SOC design; GUI and application software development with strong programming skills in Python/C/C++ and experiences/knowledge of Linux/Windows systems, etc.; Memory/Standard Cell/Sensor design with strong knowledge in semiconductor physics and analog circuit; Memory/Standard Cell/Sensor layout with strong knowledge in semiconductor physics and technology. The ideal candidate should be enthusiastic about exploring a career in advanced technology, creative, open‑minded, and visionary. In addition, he/she should have a sense of responsibility and good command of written and spoken English. Terms of Appointment A minimum of 8 working hours but not more than 18 working hours per week, Sunday and public holidays off. The appointment will be offered a six‑month contract, renewable subject to mutual agreement and performance.
