Senior Engineering Design Manager (Mechanical) Senior Engineering Design Manager (Mechanical) is responsible for leading the Mechanical design function across assigned projects, ensuring technical excellence, compliance with codes and standards, and alignment with client and business objectives. This role oversees consultants and contractors, manages design deliverables from concept through construction, and collaborates closely with cross‑functional teams including architecture, mechanical, sustainability, and project management. What this job involves The Mechanical Engineering Design Manager will lead multidisciplinary engineering teams, drive innovation, and deliver high‑quality mechanical systems for commercial and institutional buildings. Responsibilities include: Liaising with client groups to ascertain project requirements and formulate delivery proposals. Advising on the proper implementation of client design processes through feasibility, scheme design, detailed design, construction, and handover phases. Reviewing and approving design calculations, drawings, specifications, and BIM models for technical accuracy and completeness. Planning appropriate levels of design management resources. Managing the approval process in conjunction with the Project Manager and obtaining client approval. Escalating project issues to senior management and influencing cost management. Ensuring documentation and sign‑offs occur at strategic points and auditing the design management process. Providing consultative engineering support to other business groups. Driving continuous improvement in design processes, tools, and engineering standards, including digital engineering and automation technologies. Reviewing and analytically assessing new product innovations. Maintaining regular liaison with the global engineering team on initiatives such as benchmarking projects and design processes. Requirements Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering or equivalent. Minimum 8 years of experience in mechanical engineering design for building systems, including at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role. Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and large‑scale commercial or institutional projects. In‑depth knowledge of mechanical distribution systems, lighting design, codes and standards, and construction documentation. Proficiency with design and analysis software and BIM workflows. Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills with the ability to influence and collaborate across all levels. Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast‑paced, deadline‑driven environment. Experience with sustainable design, LEED, Fitwel, or similar certification processes is a plus. Willingness to travel occasionally to project sites or client offices as needed.
