We are seeking three highly motivated and talented individuals to join our team as Research Assistant Professor in Earth and Environmental Engineering or Climate and Water Resources. The successful candidates will work with a group of interdisciplinary researchers in the areas of tropical cyclone storm surge, moisture transport and recycling, hydrometeorological extremes and compound events, water resources management, carbon emission (net-zero goal), and water and energy infrastructure planning.

Key Responsibilities:

Conducting research in Earth and Environmental Engineering or Climate and Water Resources with a focus on the above-mentioned areas or beyond;Mentoring postgraduate and undergraduate students;Developing and implementing research projects (usually recommended to develop in the second year or later);Analyzing and interpreting data;Writing research proposals and reports;Publishing research findings in peer-reviewed journals; andCollaborating with other researchers in the field.

Appointees are encouraged to develop independent projects later stemming from the list of Selected Ongoing Projects below (for reference only):

Robust Infrastructure Planning for Sustainable Water Development in the Greater Bay Area under Demand Uncertainty and Climate VariabilityINTACT: Intelligent tropical-storm-resilient system for coastal cities WRF modelling Deep learning/AI Coastal Urban Flooding under Climate Change: Evolution Mechanisms and Intelligent Analysis Compound extreme analysis on winds and precipitation Deep learning or AI Global moisture tracking and tracing Monsoon dynamics and variability under climate changesCompound extremes, e.g., heatwaves, heavy precipitation, drought, wildfire etc.Precipitation predictability and forecast using deep learning and AI

Qualifications:

A PhD degree in Earth and Environmental Engineering or a related discipline;Expertise in one or more of the research areas listed above;Demonstrated ability to conduct independent research and publish in peer-reviewed journals;Strong quantitative skills and experience with data analysis and modeling;Excellent written and verbal communication skills;Ability to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams; andExperience in mentoring students is desirable.

Salary is highly competitive and will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Appointment will be made on a fixed-term 2-year contract. Contract renewal will be subject to performance, funding availability and mutual agreement. A gratuity will be payable upon successful completion of contract. Fringe benefits include annual leave, medical and dental benefits. Housing allowance may be provided where applicable.
