Backend Developer , to commence as soon as possible.The appointee will join the Laboratory of Data Discovery for Health (D24H), a start-up company incorporated by The University of Hong Kong (HKU) that is led by senior faculty members of the Li Ka Shing Faculty of Medicine at HKU. The D24H sets to play pivotal role in gathering and curating massive, unique data resources and to develop new, deep, frontier analytics in protecting global public health and improving individual healthcare through precision medicine.Responsibilities:Design, develop, and uphold scalable back-end solutions for streaming data analysis and event-driven architectures;Manage and implement data pipelines to process real-time data streams efficiently;Create RESTful APIs, GraphQL endpoints, and microservices to cater to various applications and services;Integrate and oversee data storage solutions to ensure data security and integrity;Enhance system performance and scalability to manage high-traffic and large-scale data processing;Utilise cloud platforms and services to deploy, manage, and scale back-end applications;Write clean, well-documented, and maintainable code; andPerform unit tests, code reviews, debugging, and troubleshooting to ensure top-notch software quality.

Requirements:Bachelor's or Master's Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related disciplines;Minimum of 3 years of professional experience as a Backend Developer;Proficiency with containerisation and orchestration tools like Docker and Kubernetes;Knowledge of CI/CD practices and tools for continuous integration and deployment;Familiarity with real-time analytics and data visualisation tools;Understanding of security best practices for backend development;Solid grasp of event-driven architecture and associated technologies;Proficiency in developing RESTful APIs and GraphQL endpoints;Experience with ORM tools such as Sequelize, EF Core, or similar;Experience with the Azure cloud platform for deploying and managing back-end applications; andFamiliar with databases such as SQL, GraphDB, and NoSQL, along with various data storage solutions.A highly competitive salary commensurate with qualifications and experience will be offered, in addition to annual leave and medical benefits.
