Job Summary

The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is seeking applicants for faculty positions in sustainability. We are looking for candidates with scholarly interests that cross multiple areas of sustainability and sustainable development.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the University's sustainability education strategy by leading, energizing, and envisioning a balanced and multidisciplinary approach to understanding key sustainability concepts, principles, theories, and practices.
  • Develop an internationally recognized research program that emphasizes collaborative research on solving complex sustainability issues, such as climate change mitigation and adaptation, smart city development, urban planning, food system imbalances, social and economic inequality, technology or governance innovations, and environmental risk analysis.
  • Teach and mentor students using experiential "hands-on" learning approaches and maintain an exemplary teaching record.
  • Participate in or lead collaborative teams and interdisciplinary research on sustainability and resilience topics.

About the Division of Environment and Sustainability

The Division of Environment and Sustainability is an interdisciplinary academic unit dedicated to the use and management of natural resources in an economically efficient, environmentally compatible, and socially responsible manner. Our faculty members publish widely in both disciplinary journals and diverse, environmentally focused outlets, and are rewarded for working on interdisciplinary teams in applied contexts.

Requirements

  • Hold a doctoral degree in science, engineering, or an interdisciplinary environmental or natural resources-related program with a focus on these areas.
  • Have proven teaching and advising experience at both the undergraduate and graduate levels.
  • Have a strong research and publication record consistent with the candidate's academic rank.
  • Be able to secure research funding and work effectively in interdisciplinary teams involving both social and natural scientists.
