About the Role:

The Waterloo Central School District is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated School Counselor to join its team. This is a critical position that requires a professional with expertise in creating a safe and supportive learning environment for students.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with Educational Team Members: Work closely with teachers, administrators, and other staff members to ensure students receive the support they need to succeed academically.
  • Consult with Parents and Community-Based Providers: Engage with parents and community-based providers to continue support for students beyond the school day.
  • Participate in CSE/504 Process: Participate in the Committee on Special Education (CSE) and 504 process as appropriate to ensure students receive necessary accommodations and services.
  • Assist with Personal Goal Setting and Progress-Monitoring: Help students set and work towards personal goals, tracking progress and making adjustments as needed.
  • Support College and Career Readiness: Provide guidance and support to help students prepare for college and career readiness, including long-term post-secondary planning.
  • Maintain Student Records: Keep accurate and confidential records of student progress, attendance, and behavior.
  • Provide Crisis Intervention: Provide crisis intervention and support to students as needed, drawing on knowledge of trauma, illness, and grief.
  • Perform Other Duties: Perform such other duties as assigned by the Building Principal, Director of PPS, or Superintendent to fulfill the responsibilities of the position.

About the Ideal Candidate:

We are looking for a candidate who has New York State School Counselor certification, demonstrated familiarity with and understanding of the challenges facing youth and families, and an appreciation of cultural and linguistic diversity. Preferred qualifications include successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training.
