Position Overview
As a Senior Legal Advisor within Sun Life's Asia Investment Management division, you will play a crucial role in providing legal guidance and support across various business units. Your expertise will be essential in navigating the complexities of securities law and regulatory compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Offer strategic legal advice to Sun Life's Asia Investment Management teams and other relevant business units on a diverse array of securities law, regulatory, and financial matters, with a focus on compliance with the Hong Kong Securities & Futures Ordinance.
- Engage collaboratively with stakeholders to negotiate and draft a wide range of agreements, including investment management contracts, fixed income documentation, and custody agreements, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives.
- Proactively support the product development team by providing legal insights on the establishment and management of investment vehicles, working closely with both internal and external counsel to ensure compliance with all legal and regulatory standards.
- Oversee company secretarial functions for the financial institution, including the preparation of meeting agendas and minutes, while coordinating with the appointed company secretary for necessary regulatory filings.
- Collaborate with in-house legal teams across the Asia region and globally on cross-border investment issues to ensure consistency with Sun Life Group's policies.
- Work effectively with internal stakeholders to develop and implement policies and practices that meet regulatory and internal compliance requirements.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in an in-house legal capacity, preferably within a licensed financial institution or asset management firm.
- Qualified legal professional, ideally in a Common Law jurisdiction, with a preference for candidates from Hong Kong.
- In-depth knowledge of securities and insurance law, as well as regulatory issues, particularly those related to the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance and Securities & Futures Ordinance.
- Proven ability to integrate legal expertise with business objectives to facilitate successful outcomes.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of articulating complex legal concepts and their implications for business strategies.
- Strong diplomatic skills to navigate a complex international organization and foster relationships across various teams.
- Ability to simplify intricate legal concepts into actionable guidance for diverse business units.
- Demonstrated capability to devise and implement innovative solutions to complex legal challenges.
- Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on conflict resolution and adaptability in a dynamic environment.
- Proven project management skills with a track record of leading and managing change effectively.
