Position Overview

The Investment Solutions team at Reinsurance Group of America develops and executes liability-driven investment strategies, including portfolio construction and repositioning to support the acquisition of new reinsurance business. These strategies and associated portfolios must meet business needs while considering RGA's appetite for investment risk, execution risks, and asset-liability matching.

Key Responsibilities

  • Develop transaction-specific asset and hedging strategies that optimize excess yield vs. capital within regulatory, accounting, operating, and risk management constraints.
  • Develop asset and credit-related pricing assumptions for Asset Intensive transactions, Structured Reinsurance transactions, and upfront cash-settled transactions involving credit risk to RGA.
  • Craft target portfolio strategies for given opportunities to deliver exceptional risk-adjusted returns in partnership with Portfolio Management.
  • Work with the Credit team to determine the best path to execution, including analysis of the client's existing portfolio and creation of a target portfolio given the portfolio strategy.
  • Communicate target portfolio strategies to various interested parties within RGA, including the C-suite, and gain approval for the target strategy.
  • Negotiate investment guidelines and treaty terms with clients to deliver the flexibility necessary to manage asset risk and generate target returns.
  • Lead efforts to close the asset side of the transaction, including operational aspects of receiving the client portfolio.
  • Direct the repositioning required to move from the client's portfolio strategy to RGA's target strategy.
  • Suggest and review new tools and frameworks to improve the new business pricing process.
  • Develop relationships with external contacts and internal cross-functional areas.
  • Direct the efforts of analysts to support the transaction.

Requirements

Education and Experience

Required:

  • MBA graduate and 5+ years of relevant work experience or Bachelor's degree in Economics/Finance-related field with 10+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred:

  • CFA or significant progress towards.
  • Technology-savvy, programming, and process improvement/automation skills.
  • 5+ years of corporate credit experience.
  • 5+ years of alternative investment experience.
  • 5+ years of fixed income management experience in an insurance client environment.

Skills and Abilities

Required:

  • Highly advanced investigative, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly advanced Microsoft Office skills, especially Excel.
  • Advanced Bloomberg skills.
  • Advanced oral and written communication skills demonstrating the ability to share and impart knowledge.
  • Advanced negotiation skills to assist with internal/external discussions.
  • Advanced customer relationship management and change management skills.
  • Highly advanced understanding of investment/market concepts, especially fixed income analytics.
  • Highly advanced knowledge of asset-liability management.
  • Advanced ability to set goals and handle multiple tasks, clients, and projects simultaneously.
  • Advanced ability to work well within a team environment and participate in department/team projects.

Preferred:

  • Expert understanding of investment/market concepts, especially in the context of insurance asset management.
  • Demonstrable track record of the successful implementation of investment strategies, especially in an insurance or reinsurance context.
