The Hong Kong Palace Museum is seeking a highly skilled conservator to join its team in the preservation and conservation of cultural heritage. As a key member of our conservation department, you will be responsible for examining, treating, and documenting museum objects, as well as ensuring their safe storage and exhibition.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Performing conservation work, including examination, treatment, and documentation of objects
  • Ensuring gallery and storage environment is well maintained for the objects
  • Handling exhibition-related conservation work, such as condition reports and courier trips
  • Advising on climate control, packing materials, display duration, and methods
  • Conducting research, contributing to the field of conservation, and scientific research
  • Co-organizing workshops, symposia, and scholarly projects
  • Contributing to public conservation education projects
  • Assisting in developing guidelines, policies, standards, and procedures for conservation and care of collections
  • Maintaining a conservation studio, including research and procurement of special equipment
  • Working collaboratively with curators, registrars, and other teams to ensure proper care of collections

Requirements:

  • A master's degree in conservation or similar training from a recognized college or university
  • At least 5 years of verifiable museum conservation experience beyond the degree level
  • Broad knowledge of conservation techniques, materials, and equipment used in the preservation of museum objects
  • Experience with Chinese art or archaeological materials preferred
  • Knowledge of procedures and best practices for examination and conservation of museum objects
  • Extensive experience with exhibition-related conservation matters
  • A proven track record of professional accomplishments in conservation and scientific research
  • Excellent organizational, diplomatic, and negotiation skills
  • Ability to work under pressure and manage multiple complex projects
