Position Overview
As a Senior Legal Advisor within Sun Life's Asia Investment Management division, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our teams through complex legal landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide expert legal counsel to Sun Life Asia Investment Management and associated business units on a diverse array of securities law, regulatory, and financial matters, focusing on compliance with the Hong Kong Securities & Futures Ordinance.
- Engage collaboratively with stakeholders to negotiate and draft a variety of agreements, including investment management contracts, fixed income documentation, and other essential legal instruments, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives.
- Actively support the product development team by offering legal insights on the creation and management of investment vehicles, while coordinating with internal and external legal resources to meet all operational and regulatory standards.
- Oversee company secretarial functions for the financial institution, including the preparation of meeting agendas and minutes, and ensure compliance with regulatory filings and maintenance of statutory records.
- Work in conjunction with in-house legal teams across the Asia region and globally to address cross-border investment issues, ensuring consistency with Sun Life Group's policies.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement policies and practices that comply with regulatory and internal requirements.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in an in-house legal capacity, preferably within a licensed financial institution or asset management firm.
- Legal qualification in a Common Law jurisdiction, with a preference for candidates from Hong Kong.
- In-depth knowledge of securities and insurance law, with a focus on the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance and Securities & Futures Ordinance.
- Proven ability to integrate legal expertise with business strategies to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex legal concepts effectively to business leaders.
- Demonstrated diplomatic skills to navigate a complex international organization and foster relationships across various teams.
- Capability to simplify intricate legal matters into practical advice for diverse business units.
- Proven track record of developing innovative solutions to complex legal challenges.
- Ability to manage conflicts constructively and adapt to a dynamic work environment.
- Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong commercial acumen and a proactive approach.
- Experience in project management and leading change initiatives successfully.
