Position Overview
As a Senior Legal Advisor within Sun Life's Asia Investment Management division, you will play a pivotal role in guiding our teams through a myriad of legal and regulatory landscapes.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive legal counsel to Sun Life's Asia Investment Management teams and associated business units, addressing a wide spectrum of securities law, regulatory, and financial matters, particularly in relation to the Hong Kong Securities & Futures Ordinance.
- Engage collaboratively with stakeholders to negotiate various agreements, including investment management contracts, compliance documentation, and other essential legal instruments, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives.
- Actively support the product development team by offering legal insights on the formation, structuring, and maintenance of investment vehicles, while liaising with external legal advisors as necessary.
- Oversee company secretarial duties for our licensed financial institution, including the preparation of meeting agendas and minutes, and coordinating with the company secretary for regulatory filings.
- Work in conjunction with in-house legal teams across the Asia region and globally on cross-border investment initiatives, ensuring compliance with Sun Life Group's standards.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders to develop and implement policies and practices that adhere to regulatory and internal compliance requirements.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in an in-house legal capacity or in a law firm specializing in financial services.
- Must be a qualified attorney, ideally in a Common Law jurisdiction, with a preference for candidates from Hong Kong.
- Extensive knowledge of securities and insurance law, with a focus on the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance and Securities & Futures Ordinance.
- Ability to integrate legal expertise with business objectives to facilitate successful outcomes.
- Strong communication skills to convey complex legal concepts clearly to various stakeholders.
- Proficient in navigating a complex international organization while fostering relationships across different teams.
- Capability to simplify intricate legal issues into practical advice for diverse business units.
- Proven track record of developing innovative solutions to complex legal challenges.
- Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to present effective solutions to senior management and regulatory bodies.
- Demonstrated project management skills and experience in leading organizational change.
