The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology invites applications for the role of Research Assistant Professor (RAP) within the Signal Processing and Computational Biology group (SPCB) in the Department of Electronic and Computer Engineering.
This position offers an opportunity to engage in innovative research projects focused on the development of advanced machine learning and deep learning methodologies.
Research Projects:
1. Project 1: Investigating the complexities of COVID-19 dynamics, immunological responses, and vaccine formulation utilizing genetic sequence data.
2. Project 2: Creating automated diagnostic systems for the identification of ocular diseases through image analysis.
The SPCB group collaborates with various institutions and participates in multiple government-funded initiatives, fostering a rich research environment.
Candidate Requirements:
Applicants should possess a PhD in electrical/electronic/computer engineering or related fields such as mathematics, statistics, computational biology, bioinformatics, computer science, or physics/biophysics. A strong background in machine/deep learning, signal/image processing, and computational biology is essential. Familiarity with immunology is advantageous for the COVID-19 project.
The ideal candidate will demonstrate:
- An exceptional academic record
- Strong mathematical and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities in English
- Proficiency in programming languages such as MATLAB, Python, and/or R
- A portfolio of research publications in respected peer-reviewed venues
- Experience in developing web-based software platforms is a plus
