Position Overview
The Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering at The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology is seeking a dedicated and self-driven individual to assume the role of Assistant Manager (Engineering). The selected candidate will collaborate with engineers and researchers to design, implement, and oversee engineering systems for research and development projects, while also providing essential support in project bidding, partnerships, technology transfer, and the application of R&D outcomes.
Key Responsibilities:
- Developing and validating engineering processes, equipment, and systems;
- Selecting materials for projects related to water and wastewater treatment;
- Managing projects, which includes design and cost assessments, procurement of equipment and materials, installation, testing, and commissioning for water and wastewater initiatives;
- Conducting testing and commissioning, along with providing training to the operations and maintenance teams for water and wastewater projects;
- Drafting bid proposals and negotiating contracts with clients and suppliers;
- Creating tender specifications and organizing project tendering;
- Coordinating with manufacturers and suppliers to facilitate technology introduction and subsequent transfer or implementation of R&D findings to clients.
Applicants should possess a master's degree or higher in environmental, chemical, civil, or mechanical engineering, along with a minimum of 6 years of relevant experience in the field of water and wastewater engineering. The ideal candidate is expected to have completed the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (HKIE) Formal Training Schemes (Scheme 'A' Graduate Training). We are looking for a proactive, innovative, responsible, detail-oriented, well-organized individual who is a strong team player, with excellent written and spoken proficiency in English and Chinese (including Cantonese and Putonghua), as well as solid planning, analytical, and problem-solving abilities. Experience in R&D within academic institutions will be advantageous.
Compensation and Benefits:
The starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Benefits include annual leave, medical and dental coverage, and a gratuity upon successful contract completion.
