About the Role

This is a probationary appointment for an exceptional individual who is passionate about creating a safe and supportive learning environment for students. As a School Counselor, you will play a vital role in ensuring students achieve their academic potential by collaborating with educational team members, parents, and administration.

Key Responsibilities
  1. Student Support: Work closely with students to identify barriers to learning and design personalized interventions to address their diverse needs.
  2. Counseling Services: Provide group and/or individual counseling using evidence-based interventions to support student growth and development.
  3. Classroom Guidance: Deliver instruction on college and career readiness, study skills, self-awareness, social/emotional learning, and other essential topics.
  4. Conflict Resolution: Assist administrators in mediating student conflicts and work with parents and stakeholders to identify solutions.
  5. Professional Development: Maintain knowledge of trauma, illness, and grief, and provide crisis intervention as needed.
  6. Collaboration: Partner with other professionals to continue support for students at home and ensure a seamless transition between school and community resources.
Requirements
  • New York State School Counselor certification
  • Demonstrated understanding of challenges facing youth and families, with a commitment to strengthening connections between schools and communities
  • Holds skills necessary for cultural and linguistic diversity, and appreciation for confidentiality and privacy
  • Preferred: successful completion of Therapeutic Crisis Intervention (TCI) training
