The Department of Linguistics and Modern Languages at The Chinese University of Hong Kong is seeking a highly qualified individual to join our team as a Professor, Associate Professor, or Assistant Professor in Sign Language. We are looking for a scholar with a strong background in linguistic theory and a proven track record of research in the linguistics of sign languages.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Teach undergraduate and postgraduate courses in linguistics and sign linguistics
  • Supervise projects and theses of undergraduate, MA, MPhil, and PhD students
  • Conduct programmatic research in the area of sign linguistics
  • Undertake administrative duties

Requirements:

  • PhD degree in linguistics or a related field
  • Strong commitment to effective teaching
  • Record of excellence in research in the relevant field consistent with rank and history of employment

Working Environment:

The Department is equipped with state-of-the-art research facilities, including sound chambers, eye trackers, EEG systems, and other advanced equipment. The primary medium of instruction is English, and the Department collaborates closely with other departments and research units across the University.

Appointment Terms:

The appointment will be made on a contract basis for up to three years initially commencing August 2025 or as early as possible, which may lead to longer-term appointment or substantiation later. Terms of appointment are open to negotiation.
