Position Overview

The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee a team dedicated to managing U.S. GAAP financial reporting along with associated financial planning and analysis. This position will also ensure the effectiveness of internal controls, including compliance with SOX, while collaborating with cross-functional teams to support the growth of the Hong Kong business.

Additionally, the role involves recommending and participating in the development and execution of process enhancements that may extend beyond the immediate area of oversight.

Key Responsibilities

Financial Reporting and Internal Controls

Create and sustain monthly reports for U.S. GAAP financial reporting to guarantee accurate, reliable, and timely financial and management reporting to senior leadership. Provide oversight to ensure that essential accounting controls and financial integrity are maintained. Deliver high-quality financial analyses and a comprehensive understanding of financial performance. Offer guidance on accounting and reporting requirements for all new reinsurance agreements and processes assigned to the specific area of oversight.

Financial Planning and Analysis

Engage in the annual financial planning and budgeting process for the Hong Kong region. Collaborate with the Valuation team to update financial forecasts throughout the year for management reporting. Present financial analyses and insights to relevant stakeholders with appropriate guidance from supervisors.

Leadership and Collaboration

Supervise a team of 2-3 associates. Review the responsibilities of staff accountants for accuracy and reliability from both accounting and reporting perspectives. Execute supervisory duties, including hiring, training, evaluating, coaching, and disciplining direct reports. Foster a positive and engaged work environment while mentoring associates and providing guidance on their development. Collaborate with various internal departments to ensure the integrity of client data and reports, continually assessing the quality of information for accuracy and compliance.

Additional Responsibilities

Recommend and participate in the development and implementation of process improvements that may extend beyond the immediate area of oversight. Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and Experience

Required:

Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance Chartered Accountant or CPA certification or equivalent 10+ years of accounting/finance experience, with a minimum of 5 years in the life insurance/reinsurance sector

Skills and Competencies

Required:

Proficient in Word, intermediate skills in Excel, and/or Access and SQL/Query Ability to balance detail with departmental goals and objectives Capability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously, balancing priorities and deliverables. Advanced persuasion skills when collaborating with internal and external partners to resolve issues. Strong investigative, analytical, and problem-solving abilities Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to convey business terminology that is meaningful and well-received by associates and management at all levels, as well as external contacts. Advanced interpersonal skills, demonstrating the ability to manage, mentor, and develop support staff. Ability to liaise with individuals across a diverse range of operational, functional, and technical disciplines. Capacity to work effectively within a team and manage a team.
