Service Line Overview
The Financial Risk Management (FRM) team at KPMG specializes in advising clients on the formulation and execution of risk management frameworks, policies, and controls. Collaborating with professionals from both KPMG International and our local network, we provide a comprehensive suite of financial risk management services tailored for international banks, insurance firms, asset managers, and both corporate and public sector clients. Our work encompasses a wide array of financial risks, including credit, market, operational, and liquidity risks, alongside economic capital management, stress testing, risk modeling, and regulatory compliance. We have a strong emphasis on serving financial institutions within mainland China.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the delivery of FRM engagements related to Market, Credit Risk, ESG, and ALM, ensuring the highest quality of service.
- Foster and maintain strong client relationships to maximize business opportunities.
- Lead and mentor a growing team of specialists, contributing to their professional development.
- Stay informed on the latest risk management practices and trends, both locally and globally.
- Build robust internal relationships within the Advisory practice and across other service lines.
- 5 to 7 years of experience in professional services, advisory roles, quantitative risk analysis, or within the banking and insurance sectors, with a proven track record in financial risk management.
- Deep knowledge in areas such as Financial Risk Management or risk controls in Banking or Securities firms.
- Quantitative expertise in developing, validating, and implementing financial risk models, including:
- Derivatives, structured products, and pricing models in FX or interest rates.
- Stochastic calculus and stress testing for market, credit, and climate risks.
- Understanding of capital treatments under Basel regulations.
- Familiarity with VaR analysis and associated control frameworks.
- Technical knowledge of structured financial instruments and their risk profiles.
- Advanced approaches for Credit/Market Risk, including backtesting and regulatory frameworks.
- Experience with ESG frameworks and their impact on risk assessment and strategy.
- Asset and Liability Management expertise.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as SAS, Python, C++, R, or MATLAB is advantageous.
- Exceptional interpersonal skills, with the ability to build trust and respect among senior executives.
- Strong organizational and planning skills, capable of managing multiple large-scale projects effectively.
- Excellent analytical abilities paired with a practical approach to problem-solving.
- Fluency in English with strong business and technical writing skills; proficiency in Mandarin and Cantonese is a significant advantage.
- A degree in Statistics, Risk Management, Accounting, Financial Engineering, Business Mathematics, or a related field.
- Professional designations such as HKICPA, CFA, or FRM are preferred.
- Candidates with less experience may be considered for a Senior Consultant position.
