Technology News Editor for Asia - Hong Kong

We are in search of an editor to enhance our team focused on technology across Asia. In this pivotal role, you will assist team leaders in overseeing a diverse group of reporters spanning Japan, South Korea, China, Singapore, and India. Your contributions will be vital in producing exceptional scoops and in-depth stories about the individuals, innovations, and enterprises that are at the forefront of a rapidly evolving tech landscape. This encompasses trailblazers in AI, internet firms, smartphone manufacturers, semiconductor companies, startups, and venture capitalists. Your duties will involve generating and refining story concepts, editing articles, mentoring reporters, and collaborating with journalists throughout the organization. A strong passion for revealing and elucidating the significant technology trends that are shaping our era, including the transformative impact of AI and the implications of the US-China geopolitical dynamics, is essential. Familiarity with the technology sector and corporate financials is crucial, while an understanding of economic conditions and financial markets is advantageous.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist reporters in breaking news and uncovering exclusive insights within their respective areas.
  • Collaborate with reporters to craft feature articles that explore the companies and culture within the Asian technology sector.
  • Work alongside other editors on the technology team and beyond to amplify our influence.
  • Maintain composure and effectiveness under tight deadlines.
  • Uphold the highest journalistic standards, demonstrating sound judgment and a commitment to continuous learning.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of 5 years of experience in business news editing.
  • Experience in a fast-paced news environment.
  • A keen interest in Asia, technology, and the region's evolution.
  • Proficiency in both spoken and written English.
  • A proven track record in generating compelling story ideas.
  • Demonstrated success in producing high-quality written content.
  • Experience in mentoring and guiding reporters.
  • A bachelor's degree or equivalent professional experience.
  • Evidence of progressive career advancement within an organization.

Preferred Skills:

  • Proficiency in one of the region's key languages, particularly Mandarin or Japanese.
