Job Description

As a key member of the Sun Life Asia Investment Management team, you will play a critical role in providing legal advice and guidance to support the growth and success of our business.

Key Responsibilities
  • Advise on a wide range of securities law, regulatory, and finance issues, with a focus on business activities related to the Hong Kong Securities & Futures Ordinance.
  • Negotiate and draft agreements, including investment management and advisory agreements, fixed income/bonds documentation, and other derivative documentation.
  • Collaborate with the product development team to establish, structure, and maintain investment vehicles, ensuring compliance with operational, legal, sustainability, and regulatory requirements.
  • Supervise company secretarial matters, including drafting agendas and minutes for board and shareholder meetings, and liaising with the appointed company secretary.
  • Work closely with in-house counsel teams in the Asia region and globally to ensure alignment and consistency with Sun Life Group's requirements.
  • Develop and implement policies, operating guidelines, and practices to manage and comply with applicable regulatory and internal requirements.
Requirements
  • 10+ years of relevant experience in an in-house legal team or practicing at a law firm in the relevant areas.
  • Qualified lawyer, preferably in a Common Law jurisdiction (Hong Kong preferred).
  • Expertise in securities and insurance law, regulatory, and financial services issues, with a focus on business activities related to the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance and Securities & Futures Ordinance.
  • Ability to synthesize legal knowledge and understanding of business objectives to achieve desired outcomes.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to articulate complex legal concepts and their implications for business goals.
  • Ability to develop and execute innovative pragmatic solutions to complex problems.
  • Strong project management and leadership skills, with the ability to manage change and resolve conflicts in a positive way.
