Position Overview
As a Senior Legal Advisor within Sun Life's Asia Investment Management division, you will play a crucial role in guiding our teams through a variety of legal and regulatory challenges. Your expertise will be essential in navigating the complexities of securities law and compliance in a multi-jurisdictional environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide comprehensive legal guidance to Sun Life's Asia Investment Management teams and other relevant business units on a wide array of securities law, regulatory, and financial matters, with a strong focus on compliance with the Hong Kong Securities & Futures Ordinance.
- Engage collaboratively with internal stakeholders to negotiate and draft a diverse range of agreements, including investment management contracts, advisory agreements, and various financial documentation, ensuring alignment with commercial objectives.
- Actively contribute legal insights to the product development team, facilitating the establishment and ongoing management of investment vehicles while ensuring compliance with operational, legal, and regulatory standards.
- Oversee company secretarial functions related to the financial institution, including the preparation of meeting agendas and minutes, while coordinating with the appointed company secretary for necessary regulatory filings.
- Work in partnership with in-house legal teams across the Asia region and globally to ensure consistency and compliance in cross-border investment activities.
- Develop and implement policies and guidelines to effectively manage regulatory compliance and internal requirements across the organization.
Qualifications
- A minimum of 10 years of relevant experience in an in-house legal capacity or within a law firm, preferably in a financial institution or asset management context.
- Qualified legal professional, ideally from a Common Law jurisdiction, with a preference for candidates from Hong Kong.
- In-depth knowledge of securities and insurance law, with a focus on the Hong Kong Companies Ordinance and Securities & Futures Ordinance.
- Proven ability to integrate legal expertise with business objectives to achieve favorable outcomes.
- Exceptional communication skills, capable of conveying complex legal concepts in a clear and concise manner.
- Strong diplomatic skills to navigate a complex international organization and foster relationships across various teams.
- Ability to simplify intricate legal issues into practical advice for diverse business units.
- Demonstrated capacity to devise innovative solutions to complex legal challenges.
- Proficient in conflict resolution and adapting to dynamic environments.
- Excellent interpersonal skills, with a strong commercial acumen and a proactive attitude.
- Proven project management skills, with a track record of leading and managing change effectively.
