HKUST(GZ) has obtained approval from the Ministry of Education (MoE) and become the first legally-independent educational institution co-established by the Mainland and Hong Kong since the announcement and implementation of the “Outline Development Plan for the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area” and the “Overall Plan for Deepening Globally Oriented Comprehensive Co-operation amongst Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macao in Nansha of Guangzhou”. With a spirit of pioneering innovation, HKUST(GZ) charts new territories in cross-disciplinary education and explores new frontiers in pedagogies, aiming to serve as a role model of the mainland-Hong Kong integrated educational development and become a world-famous high-level university, endeavoring to nurture future-oriented, high-level and innovative talents. As an intellectual hub for the university communities across disciplines, the HKUST(GZ) Library has amassed a rich array of resources, including over 11,000 print books, 320,000 e-books, and more than 100 database packages. Spanning approximately 10,000 square meters, the library operates through five core service divisions: Access Services, Research and Learning Support, Collection and Resource Management, Systems Services, and Administrative Services. Each division is designed to enhance the overall user experience and provide comprehensive support tailored to the diverse needs. With Phase II expansion by 2027, we aim to provide a welcoming “third space” for the HKUST(GZ) community to gather, learn, create, and unwind. Duties Drive the Library’s mission through visionary planning aligned with HKUST(GZ)’s interdisciplinary feature; Provide an inspiring and technology-enriched facility and develop a collection of resources for study, research, and enrichment; Oversee the technological development that facilitates information access and discovery; Develop strategy for adopting emerging technologies, including AI, and integrate them into library services and operations; Guide all information, access, technical, and user services and offer user education to build up students’ competency for life‑long learning; Plan exhibitions, displays and co‑curricular activities to nurture students’ holistic development; Lead the budgeting process, recruit, and cultivate a high‑performance team to ensure productivity and deliver quality services. Qualifications A master’s degree in Library or Information Science or related field; advanced degrees in relevant fields will be an advantage; A proven record of successful management and effective leadership in a library setting; Ability to effectively navigate within a large and complex organization; Effective personnel management and team‑building skills particularly in a multi‑cultural environment; Knowledge of emerging trends in scholarly communication and information and digital media technologies with evidence of continuing participation and professional growth; Excellent oral and written communication; remarkable command of English and Mandarin is required. This is a Mainland appointment, and the appointee will be offered a contract by HKUST(GZ) entity in accordance with the Mainland labor laws and regulations. Starting salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Candidates with less experience will be considered for the positions of Associate Director.
