Department Overview Department of Social Sciences and Policy Studies (SSPS) is a research‑intensive department that prides itself on multi‑disciplinary social science research and policy analysis focused on the understanding of social, economic, political and geographical phenomena and educational issues, as well as their implications and challenges for policy making and changes in local, national and global contexts. The department’s faculty are engaged in a range of innovative research areas concerning gender, family, youth, community, citizenship, minorities, immigration, climate change, sustainability, governance, urban and social policy, business, finance, entrepreneurship, and education. The department offers degree programmes at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Position Full‑time Associate Professor / Assistant Professor with expertise in one or more of the following areas. Areas of Expertise Youth, culture and community studies Health, wellbeing and ageing society Inequality, mobility and sustainability studies Key Responsibilities The appointee is expected to be an active researcher and able to collaborate with colleagues on research that leads to publications in leading international journals and successfully acquire external research funding. The appointee will participate in activities related to teaching, research, knowledge transfer activities, project supervision, curriculum and programme development, and programme and course management at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Qualifications Applicants should have a PhD in sociology, and preferably post‑qualification teaching experience in the higher education sector or other relevant professional qualifications. A professional and research network conducive to our exchange and research overseas and/or with cities in the Greater Bay Area (GBA) would also be useful. Applicants should provide evidence of achievements in research and teaching, and a statement of teaching philosophy and research interests. Benefits Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. Initial appointment will be made on a fixed‑term contract. Fringe benefits include the University’s voluntary contributions to MPF Scheme or a contract‑end lump sum payment (totaling up to 15% of the basic salary), leave, medical and dental benefits, and, where applicable, housing benefits.
