Overview The school nurse manages the health office to ensure optimum health and safety of students by providing immediate medical care and accurate management of medication and information to maximize health and wellness in the school community. The role also provides preventative care and wellness programs through education sessions and resource development for students, employees and parents. Responsibilities Provide immediate medical care to students and staff in the school health office. Manage medication inventory and maintain accurate health records. Develop and facilitate preventative care and wellness programs, including education sessions for students, parents and staff. Coordinate services between the school, local health agencies and community resources. Maintain confidentiality of health information in compliance with health office policies. Qualifications Registered/Qualified Nurse. CPR/First Aid certification and willingness to attain CPR/First Aid Trainer certification. Minimum 5 years of clinical work experience, preferably in schools or as a paediatric or emergency room nurse. High level interpersonal skills with ability to relate to students from Kindergarten through Grade 12, staff, faculty and parents. Strong written and verbal English communication skills, with Cantonese language skills desirable. Organisational and crisis management skills, with ability to multitask and remain calm in high pressure situations. Solid health assessment skills and ability to intervene appropriately in emergency situations. Experience developing and/or facilitating training programs and health and wellness programs desirable.
