Resident Doctor - Palliative and End-of-Life Care (Full/Part-Time) The Society for Promotion of Hospice Care is a leading charity dedicated to providing compassionate, high-quality palliative and end-of-life care. We support patients and their families through in-patient hospices, community outreach programs, and dedicated support services. Position Overview We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Resident Doctor to play a pivotal role in our multi-disciplinary team. This unique position combines direct clinical care with education, strategic development, and advocacy. The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering exceptional, individualized end-of-life care across various settings while also contributing to the education of future healthcare professionals and the strategic growth of our Society. This role is ideal for a physician who is not only a skilled clinician but also a passionate educator and innovator, committed to improving the standards and reach of palliative care. Key Responsibilities 1. Clinical Care Delivery Provide comprehensive, patient-centered medical care for individuals with life-limiting illnesses in our in-patient unit, out-patient clinic, and within the patient’s own home. Conduct thorough assessments, develop and implement individualized care plans, and manage complex symptoms (e.g., pain, nausea, breathlessness). Lead and participate in family meetings to discuss goals of care, advance care planning, and provide psychosocial support. Work collaboratively as a key member of a multidisciplinary team, including nurses, social workers, and therapists. Provide on-call cover as required by the roster. 2. Education and Training Design and deliver educational sessions on palliative and end-of-life care for healthcare students (e.g., medical, nursing, and allied health students). Provide clear and empathetic education to patients and their families/carers regarding their illness, prognosis, and care options. Act as a clinical supervisor and mentor for junior staff and students rotating through the service. 3. Service Development and Strategic Support Contribute to the development and evaluation of new, innovative models of care to enhance service delivery and patient outcomes. Assist the Society in fundraising activities, which may include providing clinical perspectives for grant applications, speaking at donor events, and contributing to awareness campaigns. Attend and contribute to clinical governance and Executive Committee meetings as required. Undertake any other reasonable duties as requested by the Executive Committee to support the Society’s strategic objectives. Person Specification 1. Qualifications & Registration (Essential) Medical degree from a recognized institution. Full registration with the Medical Council of Hong Kong and a license to practise. Significant postgraduate experience, with specific training and experience in Palliative Medicine, Oncology, Geriatric, or a related field. 2. Experience & Skills (Essential) Proven experience in managing patients with complex palliative and end-of-life care needs. Excellent clinical skills in symptom control and communication in challenging circumstances. Demonstrable ability to work effectively and collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team. Strong teaching and presentation skills, with experience educating both professionals and laypersons. Empathy, resilience, and a profound commitment to patient-centered care. Experience in contributing to fundraising or public awareness initiatives. A clean, valid driver’s license and access to a vehicle for community visits.
