MRDI is looking for a high‑calibre and passionate Computational Modeling Engineer (AI-related) with strong academic and research background to join our dynamic R&D team. The successful candidate will focus on computational modeling R&D, including atomistic calculation, device simulation, AI‑related data analysis and development, fabrication collaboration, and project proposal writing, to drive the institute’s technology development in novel microelectronic devices. Job Responsibilities Conduct pioneering R&D in computational modeling for semiconductor materials and microelectronic devices. Key areas involve quantum mechanical calculations, molecular dynamics simulations, the development of AI models and algorithms, Monte Carlo methods, TCAD simulations, and advanced data analysis for novel semiconductor processes and microelectronics design & characterization. Collaborate with foundries, universities, and research institutes on computational modeling, code package development, and AI‑related tasks. Perform in-depth data analysis of performance and reliability measurements to support process‑level and device‑level optimization. Contribute to the preparation of technical proposals, research grant applications, and project reports. Keep abreast of the latest developments in Si/GaN/SiC/Ga2O3/etc. microelectronics technology and identify opportunities for innovation. Support MRDI’s mission to transfer R&D results into impactful industrial applications. Provide technical guidance to junior researchers and assist in building internal know‑how and infrastructure for microelectronics device R&D. Requirements PhD degree in Computational Physics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics, Materials Science, or a related discipline, with a specialization in computational modeling for materials science and semiconductor device. Solid research experience in high‑performance computing & programming, and atomistic modeling, with knowledge of machine‑learning algorithms covering semiconductor materials, microelectronics fabrication, and device physics. Strong publication record or equivalent R&D achievements in computational modeling, semiconductor devices, or materials science. Strong code development skills in Python/C/C++/Fortran/CUDA/etc. and advanced experience in Linux/Unix‑based CPU/GPU high‑performance computing environments. Experience in proposal writing, grant applications, or collaborative R&D projects is highly desirable. Familiarity with technology transfer, IP generation, or collaboration with industry is a plus. Highly motivated, independent, and detail‑oriented, with strong problem‑solving and analytical skills. Excellent communication and presentation skills in English; proficiency in Chinese (Putonghua and/or Cantonese) is an advantage. Note: The level of responsibility and complexity of tasks will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualifications and experience. A candidate with less experience will be considered for a junior position. The initial employment contract spans 12 months, with renewal subject to performance and funding availability. The incumbent will normally work five days a week. Salary will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.
