The Opportunity This is an exciting and rewarding opportunity for an experienced and capable PYP teacher with previous coordination experience to develop and build a PYP programme from scratch. Working initially on an impressive temporary site, the successful candidate will be a key leader in the school’s pedagogical development. The successful candidate will be central to establishing a shared ownership and understanding of the school’s distinctive and innovative vision, mission, beliefs and values whilst also leading and developing a shared understanding of the PYP framework. Duties and Responsibilities Leadership Serve as a key member of the school pedagogical leadership team. Understand, promote and further the vision, mission and values of YK Pao School. Lead the school through the IB PYP candidacy and authorisation processes. Build a shared understanding of the PYP through oversight and delivery of induction meetings, information sessions, workshops, and the development of communication strategies within and beyond the school community. Identify opportunities to build leadership capacity in others and exercise influence to achieve the best possible student outcomes. Be the main liaison contact with the Asia Pacific IB Regional Office. Introduce systems and structures that enable effective management of the teaching programme. Teaching and Learning Build shared understandings and agreements for quality learning and teaching. Ensure effective curriculum planning and preparation across the Primary School. Ensure that there is balance in the languages of instruction to reflect the school’s commitment to bilingualism. Oversee the development, implementation and review of the school’s Programme of Inquiry. Ensure that instructional strategies and techniques are effective and engaging and meet the learning needs of all students. Ensure that learning environments are safe, attractive, orderly and engaging. Ensure that students take ownership of their learning and ensure that all community members understand how they can contribute to this. Serve as an instructional role model and leader for teaching teams in all areas of their work. Work collaboratively with all teaching teams to support and develop their work. Implement effective strategies to record, monitor and evaluate student outcomes and achievements. Establish and use student achievement data to inform the development of the teaching programme. Use IT and technology to support the implementation of the planned, taught and assessed curriculum. Collaboration and Curriculum Development Collaboratively develop, implement and assess the written curriculum ensuring that it meets IB requirements and the school’s intended goals. Oversee and monitor the professional development opportunities of all PYP teachers in line with IB and local requirements. Help build a school culture that values continuous learning and improvement. Engage with all stakeholder groups in critical and thoughtful reflection about programme implementation, improvement and quality. Ensure curriculum policy documentation is developed, implemented and reviewed collaboratively. Ensure that the taught character education programmes meet the social and emotional needs of all students. Ensure the effective implementation of programmes and systems that support student pastoral care. Ensure that students feel a sense of belonging. Requirements A recognised teaching degree (e.g., B.Ed., PGDE) and a valid teaching license. Must be a registered teacher, or be eligible for registration, with the Hong Kong Education Bureau (EDB). A minimum of 5 years of primary school teaching experience. Excellent communication skills in English. The Ideal Candidate Will Have (Desirable Attributes) Familiarity and significant experience with the coordination of an IB Primary Years Programme (PYP). The IB training required for the position, (and preferably IBEN approved). A pioneering mindset with a resilient, flexible, and positive "can-do" attitude suited to a founding school. Familiarity with the Shanghai-based Chinese and Mathematics curriculum is an advantage. Experience working and teaching in a bi-lingual and/or co-teaching environment. Deep commitment to working with students and their families. Understanding of the challenges and rewards of working in bi-lingual environments.
