Key Responsibilities To monitor breaking news and implement appropriate coverage to the news of the day Ensures the chain of command and can independently make editorial calls with or without the Head of Intake depending on the importance of the news Responsible for communications with upper management Helps manage the Intake Editors team in the absence of the Head of Intake Ensures that decisions made by Head of Intake as to what stories get covered and what resources are allocated to cover them are followed through Liaises with crews and stringers on the ground, instructing and communicating with them regarding coverage plans With the prior approval of the Head of Intake hires and assigns freelance crews on the ground Works in direct, immediate cooperation with other desks in the newsroom On the basis of news reports and online sources, the resources available at the time, and possible Head of Intake direction uses own judgement to organize the agency’s operations Verifies incoming packages Locates sources of videos and UGC and secures the rights to those videos Prepares clear and comprehensive handover notes for the next shift to ensure smooth transitions Confers and coordinates with other departments to ensure smoothness of operations Ensures smooth communication with the Client desk, partners and subscribers Generates ideas for news features, later date stories and soft stories Skills and Requirements Ability to multitask and manage daily duties under extreme pressure Strong background in journalism and media, including consolidated news judgment & critical thinking skills Experience in the basic operation of live broadcast trucks, satellite and microwave receivers, FTPing, live streaming and other equipment and technologies of modern television news-gathering Detail oriented with ability to work and write calmly and efficiently in high stress and intense deadline Excellent news judgement Quick thinking and diligentOriginal thinker possessing the ability to anticipate news developments Voracious reader and viewer of all news available in traditional mass media and online Strong written and verbal communication skills Fluent in written and spoken English is a must #J-18808-Ljbffr
