School Librarian (For 26Y27 School Academic Year) At TheHarbourSchool(THS), we believe that learning happens best in a community where curiosity, empathy, and creativity are celebrated. Our library is the beating heart of that community-a space where stories spark imagination, connect cultures, and nurture lifelong readers. The School Librarian acts as both curator and storyteller, leading the promotion of children’s literature and championing the joy of reading across the entire school. The role combines deep literary knowledge with organisational skill, communication finesse, and a collaborative spirit that brings stories alive for students, teachers, and families. Key Duties and Responsibilities 1. Literature, Storytelling & Reading Culture Champion a love of reading through book talks, read‑aloud sessions, author spotlights, and storytelling events. Curate, recommend, and promote diverse, high‑quality children’s literature across reading levels and interests. Nurture relationships with publishers, authors, and local literary communities to enrich the school’s reading program. Develop displays, reading challenges, and initiatives that make the library an inviting and imaginative space. Guide students, parents, and staff in finding books that inspire, comfort, or challenge them. 2. Library Management & Organisation Oversee acquisition, cataloguing, circulation, and maintenance of print and digital collections. Apply professional judgment in resource selection, ensuring balance, diversity, and alignment with THS’s values. Manage library systems, resources, and schedules efficiently. Ensure the physical environment is safe, orderly, and welcoming. 3. Collaboration & Community Engagement Work collaboratively with classroom teachers and specialists to support literacy goals and integrate reading experiences into the curriculum. Partner with school leadership to design and deliver whole‑school literary events such as Booktober, AuthorVisits, and ReadingFestivals. Act as the library’s voice in school communications—sharing reading lists, book reviews, and stories that connect home and school. Offer guidance to parents wishing to cultivate reading at home. 4. Information & Digital Literacy Support students in developing healthy reading habits both on and off screen. Curate and teach responsible, ethical, and creative use of information and media when appropriate. Evaluate emerging tools and platforms that extend access to stories and knowledge. 5. Participate in staff meetings, committees, and professional learning consistent with the broader aims of the school. Perform any other reasonable duties delegated by the school leadership team.
