Job Summary The Information Systems team supports and maintains all of Canonical’s IT production services, operating services used by over 60 million Ubuntu users worldwide. As a Senior Site Reliability / Gitops Engineer you will drive operations automation and Gitops practices in both private and public clouds, leveraging open‑source infrastructure‑as‑code tools, CI/CD pipelines, and Canonical’s leading products. Responsibilities Drive the development and automation of Gitops as an embedded technical lead. Collaborate closely with the IS architect to align solutions with the IS architecture vision. Design and architect services that IS can offer to the organization as products. Apply IaC expertise to enhance automation and improve IaC processes. Automate software operations for re‑usability and consistency across private and public clouds, addressing distributed system complexities. Maintain operational responsibility for all of Canonical’s core services, networks, and infrastructure. Develop troubleshooting, capacity‑planning, and performance‑investigation skills using observability tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, and Elasticsearch. Provide assistance and collaborate with globally distributed engineering, operations, and support peers. Allocate uninterrupted development time for large projects and automation of manual tasks. Share knowledge and best practices with team members through design sessions, mentorship, and collaborative work. Take final responsibility for time‑critical escalations. Qualifications Modern view on hosting architecture driven by IaC across private and public clouds. Product mindset focused on developing products rather than one‑off solutions. Python software development experience with large projects. Experience with Kubernetes or other container orchestration systems. Proven exposure to managing and deploying cloud infrastructure with code. Practical knowledge of Linux networking, routing, and firewalls. Affinity with various Linux storage solutions, from Ceph to databases. Hands‑on experience administering enterprise Linux servers. Extensive knowledge of cloud computing concepts and technologies. Bachelor’s degree or greater in computer science or a related engineering field. Strong communication skills in English across email, chat, video, voice calls, and in‑person. Motivated to troubleshoot from kernel to web and willing to seek help when necessary. Flexibility and eagerness to learn new things quickly.
