Senior Backend Engineer

The Senior Backend Engineer (AI) is responsible for the rapid prototyping, design, and implementation of GenAI-driven proof‑of‑concept (PoC) applications. This role focuses on speed, experimentation, and practical demonstration. You will collaborate closely with product managers (PMs) and product owners (POs) to identify, design, and build GenAI demos that validate ideas and capture market feedback. As the lead technical member in AI initiatives, you will also propose scalable architecture strategies to support multiple LLM or GenAI applications. What You’ll Be Doing System Design and Implementation: Design and implement GenAI PoCs, integrating LLMs and retrieval pipelines for testing new AI capabilities. Build lightweight backend APIs using FastAPI or equivalent frameworks to serve LLM‑based features. Develop quick, modular systems capable of adapting to multiple LLM providers (e.g., OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face). Test, benchmark, and refine prototypes to improve interaction quality, latency, and reliability. Ownership and Autonomy: Take technical ownership of AI PoC projects—from ideation and architecture design to deployment and demonstration. Make rapid technical decisions regarding framework selection, data flow design, and LLM integration to accelerate delivery. Ensure all PoCs are well‑documented, and capable of evolving into production‑ready solutions if validated. Collaboration and Communication: Work with PMs/POs to define PoC scope, user goals, and evaluation metrics. Advise business and product teams on the feasibility, trade‑offs, and best use of LLM/GenAI technologies. Present technical concepts and prototypes to both technical and non‑technical stakeholders clearly and concisely. Continuous Learning and Improvement: Stay current with the latest GenAI tools, APIs, and frameworks. Maintain a strong understanding of LLM fundamentals—especially model limitations, failure modes, and realistic capabilities. Guide PMs and stakeholders on what’s possible and what’s not with current LLM technologies. Continuously explore creative uses of GenAI for business and product innovation. Share insights and best practices across the team to improve overall AI development velocity. What We’re Looking For 4–6 years of experience in backend or full‑stack engineering, with exposure to GenAI or LLM‑based systems. Proficiency in Python, FastAPI, and one or more AI orchestration frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, PydanticAI). Experience with vector databases (Qdrant, Weaviate, Pinecone) and embedding workflows. Experience with quick UI tools like Streamlit, Reflex, or lightweight frontend frameworks. Understanding of API design, data flow, and rapid prototyping best practices. Knowledge of authentication and authorization standards (OIDC, OAuth2, OpenFGA) is a big plus. Up‑to‑date knowledge of the GenAI landscape, with the ability to evaluate emerging frameworks and tools. Strong understanding of LLM fundamentals, limitations, and performance characteristics. Excellent problem‑solving and documentation skills.
