  • Is a motivated, hands-on Mechanical Manufacturing Engineer who is comfortable being the technical point of contact between a CM/Supplier/Factory and the Doris Dev team.
  • Has several years experience in consumer product development and consumer product manufacturing, or supplier-side engineering
  • Is willing to research, learn, adapt, and take initiative
The Job

As Manufacturing Engineer, you will:

  • Lead Manufacturing updates from RFQ handoff through tooling, off-tool sampling, and mass production
  • Collect, clarify, and document supplier input for the broader DD team- Engineers, PMs and Industrial Designer
  • Drive decisions to closure by securing approvals, counter-proposals, and direction from internal stakeholders
  • Maintain the engineering record for each program: issue logs, DFM comments, change logs, and prototype evaluations, and work closely with supplier to complete root cause analysis of failures
  • Coordinate engineering activities with suppliers and prototypers
  • Provide engineering support for vendors to solve product quality problems with existing products.
  • Travel to supplier sites in mainland China on a regular basis.
The Responsibilities Project Handoff & Supplier Engagement
  • Take ownership of the full project at project kickoff with the NY engineering team following RFQ: PRD, CMF, CAD, drawings, any and all technical & material requirements.
  • Work closely with engaged suppliers to distribute, review, clarify and add further definition as necessary. Clarify project objectives with suppliers, resolve ambiguity before it becomes cost, and flag any new technical, tooling, material, or cost challenges
Pre-Tooling Development & Change Management
  • Capture supplier proposals- including reasoning, CAD proposals, and any material or process substitutions. Document proposed changes clearly and assess their implications.
  • Maintain a single, current source of truth for what each supplier has actually committed to build.
Prototype Evaluation & Reporting
  • Complete full evaluations of prototypes, reviewing performance and recording all deltas: cosmetic, functional, dimensional, and performance. Producing a clear written evaluation for the team.
Design-For-Manufacturing (DFM) & Tooling Kickoff
  • Responsible for Design for Manufacturing review ahead of tooling kickoff- collecting, reviewing, and providing feedback complete DFM analysis from suppliers for all components. Setting expectations with suppliers on DD requirements as necessary.
Tooling, T1 & Off-Tool Sampling
  • Act as the first line of review on off-tool samples and on every subsequent off-tool component review.
  • Inspect for cosmetic, functional, dimensional, and performance issues, and document findings component by component.
  • Define and propose Designs of Experiment to isolate root cause and validate nuanced issues arising across sampling rounds.
  • Update the issue log deck every round, and communicate all engineering documentation to the broader DD team
General
  • Handle multiple programs concurrently at different stages of development.
  • Provide regular project updates by email and call, including early morning or evening calls with the NY team.
  • Proactive problem solving and excellent documentation discipline.
  • Support the DDHK team on sample logistics between HK, mainland China, and NY as programs require.
The Qualifications
  • Engineering degree, preferably Mechanical Engineering- but may also include degrees in Industrial Design, Mechanical Automation, Mechanical Design and Manufacturing, or a related field
