Full-Time/Part-Time Research Assistant in the Department of Infectious Diseases and Public Health (Appointment for 12 months) (Ref. T/161/25) Project Unraveling the Role of Exotic Pets in Transmission and Persistence of Zoonotic Antimicrobial-resistant Enterobacterales This research project investigates the role of exotic companion animals in the transmission and persistence of antimicrobial-resistant (AMR) Enterobacterales, with a focus on zoonotic risks to their caregivers. The study aims to understand how antimicrobial resistance circulates between pets and humans in close-contact domestic environments. We invite applications from highly motivated and enthusiastic candidates with a strong academic background in Microbiology, Biomedical Science, Veterinary Science, or a closely related field. The successful candidate will contribute to sample processing, bacterial isolation and identification, antimicrobial susceptibility testing, and data analysis, gaining valuable hands-on experience in AMR research at the human–animal interface. This position offers an excellent opportunity to work on a timely and impactful One Health project under supportive supervision in a collaborative research environment. Duties Collect faecal and buccal swab samples from animals admitted to clinics; Ensure the proper storage and handling of collected samples; Perform data collection by interviewing the owners of the animals; Maintain accurate and organised records of all collected data and samples; Assist with general laboratory duties and administrative tasks as needed. Requirements A Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Biomedical Science, Veterinary Science, Animal Science or a related discipline; Strong communication and interpersonal skills for data collection from animal owners; Detail-oriented with excellent organisational and record-keeping abilities; Ability to work independently and as part of a team; Excellent command of written and spoken English and Chinese (preferably in Cantonese); Previous experience in animal handling and sample collection is preferred.
