Join to apply for the Senior Medical Scientific Liaison role at MSD Role Summary The Senior Medical Scientific Liaison (MSL) is a therapeutic and disease expert who engages in scientific exchange with leaders in the external medical and scientific community. The role provides scientific leaders with balanced, factual, scientific information about non-product areas of interest to the Company and replies to scientific questions from leaders, including questions about Company products. This work is aligned to four core pillars: Scientific Exchange, Research, Scientific Congress Support, and Scientific Insights. Responsibilities Engage in non-promotional scientific exchange with scientific leaders (SLs) or key decision makers (KDMs) as a product and disease state expert. Execute Field Medical Engagement Plans within the scope of local and global policies, local rules, and regulations and aligned with the Field Medical standard operating procedure (SOP). Maintain up-to-date knowledge of therapeutic area, major studies, product information on company and other companies’ therapies, clinical data, and pipeline data to provide balanced, accurate data to SLs, KDMs, and the healthcare community. Communicate balanced medical/scientific information to SLs and KDMs through peer-to-peer, non-promotional communication. Define and maintain a roster of SLs and KDMs in the therapeutic area. Interacting with identified SLs and KDMs by exchanging balanced information and appropriately communicating these exchanges with internal colleagues. Utilize scientific and medical expertise to communicate scientific information in individual and group presentations. Respond to unsolicited requests for medical, scientific, pipeline, organization product information from SLs or KDMs using approved scientific materials and appropriately documenting use. Provide insights internally on scientific gaps, ideas, and other topics gathered from scientific exchange to inform areas of interest, clinical trial programs, and company therapeutic strategy. Alert investigators to company investigator-initiated study proposals (MISP) and to the process for submitting investigator-designed proposals for review and approval, encouraging research publication of MISP studies supported by the company in strict compliance with global/local guidance. Work with Global Clinical Trial Operations (GCTA) to identify potential investigators for Phase I–III clinical trials. Ensure that engagement metrics (both quantitative and qualitative) are achieved. Provide on-label medical insights and training to internal colleagues, including organization and competitor products and disease state with therapeutic knowledge. Attend and participate in scientific congresses/meetings in local country and internationally to understand emerging data on patient treatment within the therapeutic area when requested. Support the preparation of non-promotional medical education programs. Perform all company business in accordance with company policies, procedures, and country regulations. Qualifications PhD in health or life sciences, PharmD, MD, or a pharmacy degree. 2+ years of pharmaceutical industry experience in a customer-facing role, if holding a pharmacy degree. Clear and concise communication skills (verbal, written, presentations) and interpersonal skills with ability to work in cross-functional teams. Demonstrated analytical skills and solid understanding of research methodology. Ability to learn and convey medical/scientific information to healthcare professionals and decision makers. Knowledge of local pharmaceutical industry guidelines/code, regulatory/reimbursement framework, and clinical research guidelines (ICH‑GCP, Declaration of Helsinki). Ability to travel extensively (up to 70% of the working week). Cost Management Obtain manager approval for all travel and extraneous expenditures.
